Mobile phone carriers to provide global instant messaging service

Barcelona, Spain (Washington Post): Several of the world's largest mobile phone carriers have agreed to offer instant messaging (IM) across their networks as part of an initiative to make their IM service globally available and interoperable. The interest for interpreters and translators? First, it will create new markets such as instant message translation; second, as broadband services increase in scale and decrease in cost, remote interpreting by phone with high-quality voice and images will become a viable proposition.
