The talents of interpreters not lost in translation
|
| |
California, USA (Stockton Record): A good courtroom interpreter knows legal and medical terminology in two languages and throws in slang spoken on the streets of far-away cities. Interpreters employed full time, who earn between $30,000 and $60,000 a year, have to pass rigorous oral and written exams and maintain yearly training. The state has undertaken recruiting campaigns to fill the need for more interpreters.
