Toronto, Canada (Globe Technology): SpeakQ, developed at Bloorview MacMillan with funding from the U.S. Department of Education, is believed to be the first speech-recognition software designed for students with learning disabilities. It combines speech recognition and word prediction in a single product.
Fraser Shein, a researcher at Bloorview MacMillan who helped to develop the software, said other speech-recognition programs have failed in helping those with learning disabilities.
