Cochlear implant technology may help blind to see

Brussels, Belgium (Reuters): A pan-European consortium of scientists have come up with a method for connecting cameras to the optic nerve, allowing people to see again. This camera, which would be mounted on spectacles, would work in a manner similar to cochlear ear implants, which are also attached to the head. This new technology is funded by the European Union's Executive Commission, which is dedicated to keeping top scientists in Europe.
