New interface for the illiterate

New Delhi, India (Times of India): Because 40 per cent of the population in India are illiterate, Ravi Venkatesan, the chairman of Microsoft India, said there was need for a new interface, beyond even the regional language. Microsoft's research laboratory in Bangalore is working on such interfaces, including voice recognition.
Paul Maritz, former group VP, Microsoft Corp, who now heads the Grameen Foundation, USA, said they are looking to expand the Grameen Phone experience of Bangladesh. The GF will take this to Africa, primarily Uganda, he said.
