New York, USA (Medscape): Health Canada has approved a cochlear implant system (PULSARci100, made by Med-El Corporation) to allow patients with severe hearing loss to understand speech and environmental sounds. The device incorporates a highly durable and power-efficient electronics platform on a single miniaturized chip. It is the first implant to be capable of parallel stimulation without sound distortion due to channel interaction, thereby more precisely mimicking natural hearing for enhanced acoustic detail and clarity.
