California, USA (Press Enterprise): Originally designed by Stanford E. Taylor, the Visagraph records and analyzes the way eyes move over text while reading. It was first sold in 1985. Later releases, in 1995 and 2005, include the use of the goggles with infrared sensors. The device records a student's eye movements as they scan words and uses the information to evaluate reading fluency. Eye positions are sampled 60 times per second.
Once a student is tested, an analysis is given to educators that includes a plan to help students correct deficiencies. Plans include strategies such as use of computer programs that train the eye to read from left to right.
