Irish Judge calls for foreigners to pay for interpreters

Dublin, Eire (The Irish Times): The National Consultative Committee on Racism and Interculturalism (NCCRI) last night expressed concern at remarks from a district judge that foreign defendants should pay for their own interpreter services. Judge John Neilan yesterday questioned the use of taxpayers' money to provide interpreters for defendants from what he called the Eastern bloc.
Speaking in Mullingar District Court, Judge Neilan said foreigners earning wages could afford the translation services themselves.
