Language barriers to healthcare

Victoria, Australia (Australian Star): Language barriers, doctor shortages and restricted consultation times make it difficult for new-Australian women to effectively communicate their problems. Most of the women found language to be the biggest problem, and believed they were not able to properly describe their problems to doctors. GPs have access to an interpretation phoneline, but this service is not being used regularly, resulting in many women bringing children or other family members to their consultations to act as interpreters
