Kosovo TV to add sign language broadcasts

Brussels, Belgium (Euro-reporters.com): Public broadcaster Radio Television Kosovo (RTK) is to add sign language to its broadcasts in five local languages. "We have visited as many people as possible to collect data but we still do not know the exact number of people who suffer from impaired hearing," according to Ramadan Gashi at the Association of Deaf and Hearing-impaired People in Kosovo. Roughly half of Kosovo's deaf and hard-of-hearing are children or young people of school age.
Unlike Serbian and Albanian, Kosovo's sign language is a universal Esperanto as it is the same across countries of the former Yugoslavia and can be understood by the hearing-impaired throughout Kosovo's ethnic communities.
