Court interpreters in demand
|
| |
Persekutuan, Malaysia (New Straits Times): The shortage of Tamil interpreters has been resolved but that of Chinese-dialects interpreter has been dogging court administrators since 1995. The shortage is so bad that to avoid a backlog of civil cases, some lawyers are bringing private interpreters to help the courts. They are paid RM250 a day for cases in the Sessions Courts and RM350 in High Courts.
The fear that an innocent person may be punished because of the lack of an interpreter has grown following the case of Nepali Mangal Bahadur Gurung.
