Lawsuits for dyslexia
|
| |
Edinburgh, Scotland (The Scotsman): With the increase in litigation against local councils by disgruntled former pupils that have discovered latterly that they are dyslexic, it is surely only a matter of time before a council or a private school is successfully prosecuted.
People have misconceptions that dyslexia is about reading backwards. The word 'dyslexia' comes from the Greek and means, literally, 'difficulty with words'. It is tiny differences in the brain organisation that leads to problems in handling verbal codes. Dyslexics may struggle to translate written symbols into speech (reading) and spoken words into written symbols (spelling and writing).
