Equal access charter for the film industry

London, UK (Creativematch): Top British film industry names are coming together tonight to launch an Equalities Charter for Film. The first of its kind, it will promote equal opportunities good practice and tackle issues of access, training and representation, both behind the camera and on-screen.
Access issues for people with disabilities are also a key part of the charter. 14% of the population class themselves as disabled, whilst only 6% of the cinema-going population are disabled. The UK Film Council recently invested £500,000 in enabling those with hearing and sight impairments to use audio description and subtitling equipment when they go to the cinema.
