Protest against language legislation

New York, USA: There is heated debate in New York about legislation introduced last September, which would require all Department of Education schools to provide translation services to parents with limited English-language proficiency. Translators must be present at parent-teacher conferences and Parent Association meetings, and all report cards, notices and other documents must be translated into the nine most common languages.
