New Hampshire, USA: A man found guilty in 2002 of first degree assault for beating his infant daughter is seeking a new trial, citing language and intellectual barriers affected his right to effective legal counsel.
Chhoeup, a native of Cambodia, was confused by the interpreter during the trial, and was “required to listen to a translator simultaneously with the trial and was constantly confused as to what people were saying due to language and comprehension limitations," according to court documents.
