Hyderabad, India (Times of India): Schools that penalise students for speaking in their mother tongue in the classroom may have to pay a hefty price for it. The Indian government is in the process of drafting guidelines that prohibit schools from penalising students who speak in their mother tongue. The government also plans to introduce Telugu as a compulsory subject till Class X.
