Connecticut to go English-only?

Connecticut, USA (Litchfield County Times): Senator John Piscopo (R-Thomaston) is hoping this will be the year in which his nearly 20-year quest to make English the only official language in Connecticut will be embraced by the legislature.
Despite the fact that Native American languages have historical precedence over English, not to mention the economic and cultural value of linguistic diversity, in the 1990 Census, Connecticut recorded a foreign-born population of 279,383, which amounted to approximately 8.5 percent of the state's total population of 3,287,112. In the 2000 Census however, that number had risen to approximately 312,437 or 9.2 percent of the state's total population of 3,405,565, giving Connecticut an increase in foreign-born residents of 11.8 percent over the decade.
