Boston, USA (Boston Herald): The 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act has caused profound changes in access to services, according to an article today in the Boston Herald. The increase in the numebrs of disabled students has led to changes in college teaching and testing, as well as the emerging universal design approach, in which programs, services and facilities are developed to accommodate both the disabled and nondisabled.
Assistive technology - such as Braille computer keyboards or voice-output computers, designed for visually impaired students - has made learning more accessible, as has a better accommodation of students' needs.
