Texas, USA (Houston Chronicle): The HAR1 gene produces an RNA molecule that aids in the formation of the brain's neocortex between the seventh and 19th weeks of an embryo's development into a fetus. This part of the brain is thought to be critical to higher levels of thinking, including the development of speech.
