Prophets of doom
|
| |
Mumbai; India: Here is one technology forecast on future "foreign-language mouths" that spells doom for interpreters – but is quite obviously written by someone who does not know quite what translation involves:
"Voice recognition technology can comprehend the spoken word and convert it to text; an automatic translation device can take that text and convert it into any other language stored in its memory. A speaking computer can then voice it in that other language so that it can be heard and understood by people knowing it. As all these processes are almost instantaneous, and as miniaturisation can reduce the hardware involved to a tiny implant that can be embedded in our mouths, anyone will be able to talk in any language by merely speaking in their own language."
