A history of autistic research
|
| |
Washington, USA (Washington Times):It is interesting that the first studies of autism were made at the same time in different countries. Leo Kanner's study "Autistic Disturbances of Affective Contact" was published in the journal "Nervous Child" in 1943. Hans Asperger’s study entitled "'Autistic Psychopathy' in Childhood"; was published in "Archiv fur Psychiatrie und Nervenkrankheiten" in 1944 – but was not translated until 1994.
In the United States, a reasonable estimate is that 30 or 40 children out of every 10,000 are diagnosed with autism, and another 30 or 40 are diagnosed with other Pervasive Developmental Disorders.
