Australian scientists develop new hearing aid technology

Canberra, Australia (ABC Online): With 400 babies born profoundly deaf each year, and hundreds more with hearing impairments, health authorities now screen every newborn baby, and if necessary, fit hearing aids. But it's not until a baby starts to communicate that doctors can actually tell whether the hearing aid is working effectively. That can mean crucial weeks and months lost when they should be learning sounds and developing the basics of speech. Now Australian scientists have developed new technology to overcome that delay.
