London, UK: This month’s edition of the journal "Evolution and Human Behaviour" features fascinating research by an Austrian-American team on human body language, analysed using techniques more commonly associated with observing the mating rituals of apes and other wild animals.
The study suggests men use the moves to demonstrate their status, health and general prowess to females they have not met before, success resulting from expansive “dominant male” gestures and leaving women in no doubt that they were the focus of attention.
The research team is based at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Urban Ethology at Vienna University, and at Bucknell University in America. The findings were supported by Desmond Morris, veteran anthropologist and author of "The Naked Ape".
