Johannesburg, South Africa (AllAfrica): South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) will have to increase the airtime it gives to local languages from April under licensing changes, the broadcasting regulator said yesterday.
SABC2, which broadcasts in Sesotho, Afrikaans and other more marginalised South African languages, must fill 65% of broadcasts in languages other than English by 2005-06, and this must increase to 70% by 2008-09.
