Ohio, USA (Lima): Paul Payack is president of an operation called Global Language Monitor. He has developed a series of mathematical formulas called the Predictive Quantities Indicator, with which he attempts to measure the English language. Payack has been tracking the growth of the language since 1999. He started with a base number of words from widely used unabridged dictionaries and has attempted to keep up with the number of different words currently used in print, the electronic media and on the Internet. Now, he says, the language is on the verge of adding its 1 millionth word
