Alaska, USA (Anchorage Daily News): A survey of 15 of Alaska's biggest Native corporations found they made $2.4 billion in revenue from federal contracting in 2004, up from $1.8 billion the year before, according to the Native American Contractors Association. […] The 13 regional corporations, plus village corporations Alutiiq and Chenega, handed out $27 million to their shareholders in 2004. They also contributed nearly $5 million to cultural and social programs, according to the Native American Contractors Association, which complied the data. On remote Kodiak Island, the money has gone to individual shareholders and funded scholarships, an Alutiiq museum, culture camp and a language preservation program.
