On the nature of language

Toronto, Canada (Excalibur Online): For those who want basic information about the various issues involved in aphasia, or “loss of language”, here is an introductory article: “Aphasia is an impairment of communication because of brain damage. It refers to problems in understanding, listening, writing and talking with other people. The person who has this impairment is an aphasic person. By saying it causes problems in our language, we can say that it is a "thought disorder".
The hemispherical split in the brain correlates to a split in the types of aphasia. It seems that the type of aphasia depends on which part of the brain gets injured. If the Broca (right hemisphere) has the disorder, we will have Broca's aphasia and if the damage has happened in the Wernicke (left hemisphere), there is Wernicke's aphasia.”
