Missouri, USA (Kansas City Star): Happily, there is an ancient and universal language that bonds all of us together, one that we share with chimpanzees: laughter. According to this article, for Robert Provine, a University of Maryland psychologist and national expert on laughing, less than 15 percent of laughter comes in response to jokes. Most laughter occurs in mundane conversation as some sort of dopey social lubricant, linguistic tic or nervous place filler.
