DOD invests $48.4M in speech recognition

Washington, USA (Techconfidential): The U.S. Department of Defense is making a substantial investment in speech recognition, which, like handwriting recognition, remains a huge technology challenge. The DOD is pumping $48.4 million into the Johns Hopkins University to establish and operate a Human Language Technology Center of Excellence, which will focus on advanced technology for automatically analyzing a wide range of speech, text and document image data in multiple languages.
