Translators important in International Man Booker Prize

Toronto, Canada (NP): The other important part of [the International Man Booker] prize is that translators play an essential role in many of the selected works and deserve as much recognition as the authors — if a translator was involved in the winning author’s work, he or she will receive 15,000 pounds or about $34,000. “It is a sign of the disrespect in which translators have customarily been held, and a sign, too, of the parochialism of the British literary scene, that foreign literature in translation is so neglected,” he said.
