For example, it organises competitions, such as the Descartes Communication Prize, funds research on issues relating to science and governance, ethics, women in science, and youth and science, and hosts events, such as ‘Communicating European Research’ conference in November this year. <br>The European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO) prize, worth €1 500, is given each year for an outstanding piece of science writing designed to report on a topical issue to a lay audience.
